An Extension of Little Giant Steps
Dr. Jan Bedell's podcast this week is sharing her expertise as a Neurodevelopmentalist on how you can be a significant change-agent in your special needs child's life. Even more deeply is her life with Jenee, her first-born child who arrived with many disabilities. It was because of Jan's professional knowledge and her educational focus on early childhood development in becoming a teacher, her current gift from God was realized. While Jan and her family encountered all the stresses and strains of having, coping with, and prayerfully hoping for Jenee to gain skills and knowledge that could sustain her to and through her adulthood, Dr. Jan's journey has now brought all that and more to thousands of children, teens, and adults.
It was Jan's faith and her professional judgement that lead her to making a very risky decision when she pulled her two daughters out of public school and began homeschooling. I say risky, because at that time homeschooling was still not an acceptable route to take and in some states was illegal.
Another act of God was Jan being introduced to the NeuroDevelopmental (ND) Approach. Jenee was now sixteen and unable to read. In learning about the ND Approach, Jan found much that made sense. She learned through brain training, new connections, or repair of damaged ones could result in functionality being developed that had not existed before. There were root causes in the brain that could be fixed or a least improved. The rest of the story, you'll need to listen to the podcast. Dr. Jan will teach you knowledge, skills, and techniques to improve your special needs child's functional abilities in cognitive, physical, and social ways. CLICK HERE for the rest of the story.
